BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

Professor Robert Goodwin III has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and has served in several senior leadership and academic positions with Caucasus University. He started his relationship with the university when he received a professorial appointment as Professor of Business Administration on October 14, 2010.

Professor Goodwin served as the President and Chairman of the Board of Governors of New Westminster College from August 18, 2011 until November 1, 2017, when New Westminster College became the 10th constituent school of Caucasus University as the New Westminster College of Caucasus University. Immediately thereafter, on November 2, 2017, Professor Goodwin was appointed the first Dean of New Westminster College of Caucasus University and was concurrently appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of Caucasus University.


Professor Goodwin was appointed as Professor Emeritus of Caucasus University upon his retirement on October 3, 2018 and continues his affiliation with the university and college in an advisory capacity.


Before his retirement, Professor Goodwin served as a member of the Advisory Council of the International Association of University Presidents from 2015 to 2017 and was reappointed for an additional three-year term in 2017. He previously served as a Member of the Council for Foreign Relations from 2013 to 2017, being appointed by the President of the Republic of Macedonia. He has also served as a member of the International Advisory Board of the Research Centre for Studies on Intelligence, Strategic Science and Security in Rome, and the International Advisory Board of the Research Institute for European and American Studies in Athens.


Professor Goodwin has received two honorary doctorates. He was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration (Honoris Causa) by Caucasus University on October 14, 2010, and the Doctor of Letters on September 2, 2015 by the Bank of Georgia University. His earned degrees include a Bachelor of Business Administration from National University on April 18, 1982, and a Master of Public Administration in Administrative Organization and Management from Golden Gate University on August 23, 1984.


Professor Goodwin considers himself as a lifelong learner. He completed the Advanced Management Studies Program at the Yale School of Management on May 14, 1987, and the Strategic Human Resource Management Executive Education Program at the Harvard Business School on July 19, 1992. Professor Goodwin has also completed executive education programs at Vanderbilt University, UCLA, and the University of Texas at Austin. And he has held an active Community College Instructor Credential in Public Services and Administration since February 9, 1985, issued by the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges.


Professor Goodwin previously served as a special advisor to the Governor of Missouri, Governor of Alabama, and both the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina. He had a distinguished military career as a volunteer and served as a state-commissioned Major General (Title 32 USC and Title 25, Code of Laws of South Carolina) in the Joint Services Detachment of the South Carolina Military Department assigned to the Office of the Adjutant General. Concurrent with his part-time state military service, he served as president of a general contracting firm.


Professor Goodwin’s military leadership education includes completion of the U.S. Army General Officer Installation Commander Course, and PME courses at National Defense University, Army War College, Army Management Staff College, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Inter-American Defence College, and the United Nations Institute.


Professor Goodwin’s decorations and honors include the Distinguished Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal w/OLC, Order of the Palmetto, Palmetto Cross, Conspicuous Service Medal, and the Freedom of the City of London.
